Southwestern college is rich in tradition!!!! Listed in Newsweek as having one of 15 most bizarre mascots/nicknames among colleges and universities in the US. The mascot “Moundbuilder” began in 1927. “They built no mounds, but yearly, a ceremony of adding rocks to the growing pile symbolizes the traditional constructive tendencies of the college, and at the same time pledge the loyalty of faculty and students to Alma Mater.”
Southwestern College is the only college in Kansas and surrounding states that issues a Dell laptop to all entering students. Fall 2009, purple laptops will be given to the students. The campus is wireless so studying can happen indoors or out!
Southwestern College offers three 5th year master programs. Students can complete their bachelors within 4 years and then attend full time the 5th year and earn a masters in Leadership, Teaching or Business Administration.

“My experience as a transfer student was very smooth. I met with Leslie Grant, the Transfer Admission Counselor about my classes andshe was able to tell me where I stood in terms of credits and my major. I appreciated that when I came for my campus visit that I was able tomeet with someone in Admissions, Financial Aid as well as meet my Academic Advisor.”
“Overall the transition was seamless and I adjusted to SC within the beginning of my first semester. As a non-resident student it was moredifficult to get to know my fellow classmates, but I think that on-campus transfers have a much easier time adjusting. I appreciated how muchthe faculty here cared about my education and that they invested their time and energy into my experience here. It made me wish that I had attended all four years here! I did take additional credits for two semesters in order to graduate on time, but luckily all of my credits from Cowley College transferred to Southwestern College.”
“As a transfer student receiving financial aid, including grants, scholarships and loans I was blessed with the opportunity to work as a student worker in the financial aid office. Thus, I gained valuable insight into managing my finances both during and after college. I made sure to meet state and federal deadlines for financial aid paperwork, which benefitted me greatly. My experience at Southwestern College helped shape my future and enabled me to learn and grow into the person I am today.”
