Private Colleges Confirm Higher Graduation Rates
Are the Norm

Topeka, Kansas - According to the most recent data from National Center for Education Statistics, Kansas independent colleges graduate an average of 7.3% more of their students in four years when compared to state institutions.

“Finishing school in four years as opposed to five or six years saves money,” said Doug Penner, President of the Kansas Independent College Association. “Even when taking into account differences in tuition costs, which may not be that much to begin with, entering into the workforce a year sooner has a significant financial impact.”

Beyond the financial implications, these statistics speak to the learning environment on private college campuses. For some students, private colleges provide an educational advantage when it comes to degree completion.

“While obviously not for everyone, private colleges do offer an environment where many students can really excel,” said Penner. “Kansas independent colleges and universities are particularly well-suited for students who value a strong sense of campus community, the opportunity to participate in a variety of extra-curricular activities and leadership roles, and intensive interactions with faculty and advisors.”

These same traits that lend themselves to faster degree completion among traditional students may also be attractive to non-traditional and graduate students, as well. A full 24% of full-time Kansas graduate students age 25 and older attend one of the 18 Kansas independent colleges.
